The social landlord Saumur Habitat wanted to replace the gas boilers and domestic hot water tanks of 117 houses around Saumur. This heritage was made up of old and poorly insulated houses. Panasonic Aquarea L heat pumps were chosen. Thanks to the natural refrigerant R290, they provide hot water at 75° with optimal energy efficiency. The outdoor unit is compact and aesthetic with its anthracite gray color, which was a plus.
Challenge
One of the challenges of this renovation project was that the heat pumps were capable of producing domestic hot water at a temperature of 75° in order to keep the existing radiators. The use of a generation of heat pumps using the natural refrigerant R290 made it possible to meet this challenge and produce the required temperature.
Solutions & Tech Applied
Saumur Habitat is a public institution that manages and develops more than 4,000 social and cultural housing units in Saumur and the Maine-et-Loire department. Keen to decarbonize its assets, the lessor launched a project to replace obsolete gas boilers and domestic hot water tanks on 5 sites around Saumur. Engie Home Service was chosen as a partner to lead this call for tenders and then manage the installation and maintenance of the equipment. The assets concerned were very diffuse, with both very poorly insulated old Tuffé stone houses and more recent developments. In addition to the decarbonization of the heating and DHW production system, one of the criteria of the call for tenders was the obligation to produce 75° at the water outlet in order to maintain the same level of service as with the previous equipment. Two manufacturers were identified as being able to offer heat pumps providing 75° at the water outlet, which is only possible with heat pumps using R290. Panasonic was chosen for reasons of performance, compactness (small footprint of the unit) and design. During installation, the end customer highlighted the quality of the integration of the outdoor unit and its performance in terms of noise level. A total of 117 Aquarea L series heat pumps operating on R290 were therefore installed, the majority of which are connected to the Panasonic Smart Cloud system in order to control consumption. The capacities of the machines vary between 5 and 7 kW depending on the types of houses to be equipped.
