Aquarea Air to Water Heat Pump, Residential

Outdoor units:
Indoor units:

The difficult part of this project was the step from a G-label to A++ label. We have chosen heat pumps and underfloor heating. All in all, that is technically quite complicated in such a large building. 3x a Panasonic Aquarea mono-bloc 16kW heat pump in cascade on the roof. In the technical room a large buffer tank of 1000 liters and from there to the floor heating distributors in the 32 apartments. Consciously chosen to separate tap water preparation from space heating.

Challenge

Panasonic heat pumps are very suitable for working in a cascade, they are easy to control and adjust. Designing the delivery system so that all apartments have sufficient flow is in an existing building complex. Especially if the client wants to leave the existing piping as intact as possible.

Solutions & Tech Applied

In this building, the Panasonic heat pumps are a sustainable alternative to a gas-fired boiler. A heat pump does not produce heat, but displaces it. A Panasonic heat pump extracts the heat from the outside air. A heat pump also uses energy, but can transfer heat by a factor of 3 to 6. With current energy prices, a heat pump is a much cheaper way of heating than a gas-fired central heating boiler. This requires investment. A heat pump is approximately 3 times more expensive than an average central heating boiler. The payback periods are on average between 5 and 7 years, but are expected to decrease rapidly in the coming years. An important disadvantage of heat pumps is that they cannot heat the central heating water to 80°C, but are stuck at a maximum of 50°C. The best efficiency is achieved at 35°. That is why we have installed a low temperature release system in this building. In addition, the system can handle less large peaks, which places demands on draft and insulation facilities. Heat pumps consume relatively little energy and can be up to 40% more efficient than the best gas-fired central heating boiler! 3x 16kW Panasonic mono-bloc in cascade setup.
