The client's objective was to provide an air-conditioning solution to a 4* Hotel in one of the most densely populated tourist areas of Mallorca and with limited availability of electrical power. Therefore, a high-performance energy-efficient hybrid solution was chosen: the ECO-G units with hydronic installation and ECOi. In addition to covering air-conditioning needs without increasing electrical power, they also provide DHW recovery.

Challenge

The most significant challenge was the lack of electrical power and compliance with H4 of the CTE (Technical Code for Buildings). As this was a renovation of 4 existing buildings, space for the installations was scarce and the execution time was limited. The solution implemented meets all demands for air-conditioning, heating and DHW.

Solutions & Tech Applied

The innovation of the project lies in the use of GHP equipment for the air conditioning of the main building (which, being a seasonal hotel, has a guaranteed occupancy rate of 70–100 %); this also ensures the recovery of DHW to cover the hotel's demand. DHW production is instantaneous thanks to the installation of multi-energy cylinders. For the remaining 3 buildings, which consist of 60 apartments, the Mini ECOi solution with low-silhouette duct terminal units has been chosen. Finally, for the restaurant, which is south-east facing and enclosed with a large window and has a high occupancy, an ECOi unit with 14 kW ducted units was chosen. Among its most relevant features are reduced condensation and low noise levels.

The client's expectations for efficient and sustainable air conditioning have been fully met thanks to the choice of aerothermal equipment with DHW recovery. The return on investment will be practically immediate as there is no need to contract more electrical power or install transformer equipment. The hotel chain has approved this system for its other hotels with similar characteristics.
