For the renovation of the castle and resumption of hotel business, the customer wanted to move away from the fossil fuel oil with high (18,000 litre) consumption. This had to be combined with a photovoltaic system, all the while observing requirements for the preservation of a historic landmark.
Challenge
The challenge was outfitting the 12th-century building with the latest technology, in the process not only preserving a historic building but also remaining true to the structure's aesthetic.
Solutions & Tech Applied
The project should be considered innovative because it provides the old walls with efficient heating on the basis of regenerative technologies. Moreover, the historic ambiance of an exclusive hotel could not be marred with visible outdoor units. The solution was to build the super-quiet outdoor units into an old kennel. Although the project was only recently completed and hard consumption figures aren't yet available, they are easily well below the old consumption rate thanks to the switch from oil to the air-to-water heat pump technology – and the customer's conscience is clearer to boot. They are already very happy with the implementation and proud of their new "baby". The installer meanwhile is also very confident after having had nothing but good experiences with Panasonic's heating solutions.
