PANASONIC KEEPS IT COOL AT BURGER AND LOBSTER

Burger and Lobster, the popular chain of restaurants, recently opened its latest eatery in a Grade II listed building on London’s Threadneedle Street. To provide the best possible guest experience, installers FWP and distributors Oceanair specified Panasonic’s ECOi VRF system to provide a subtle and unobtrusive heating and cooling system.

Oceanair and FWP faced a number of challenges when designing the heating and cooling system for this particular Burger and Lobster location. The restaurant is in a Grade II listed building, which meant that they were unable to make any major alterations to the property. The restaurant also features a beautiful period ceiling that Burger and Lobster were keen to leave free of obstructions, so FWP had to design a solution that made use of other architectural features and could be installed in a listed building.

Burger and Lobster is open six days a week, from breakfast at 7am until late in the evening, and that restricted the amount of time FWP could spend on site installing the system. They therefore required a solution that would be quick and easy to install, occupy minimal space but still able to provide a powerful heating and cooling solution.  Working with Oceanair to define the final solution, FWP specified and installed the Panasonic ECOi 2-way VRF system, which is renowned both for its ease of installation and its capacity.

In order to adhere to the restrictions imposed by the Grade II listing and Burger and Lobster’s strict interior design aesthetic, including keeping the ceiling free of air conditioning units, FWP had to devise a creative solution to ensure that the restaurant was perfectly climate controlled. They specified Panasonic’s concealed ducted units to be installed behind the banquette seating to provide a totally hidden, yet effective, air conditioning solution. Panasonic’s ducted units are also renowned for their near-silent operation, in keeping with the high-end but relaxing ambience of the restaurant.

The busy location and long opening hours of the Burger and Lobster restaurant on Threadneedle Street were major factors in their specification of the Panasonic ECOi 2-way system, because it is quick and easy to install, so it minimised disruption to the restaurant. Just as FWP were restricted with what they could install in the public areas, there was also very limited space in the back-of-house area of the restaurant to position the VRF units. Panasonic’s ECOi 2-way units take up very little installation space, so were comparatively easy to install and meant that the design for the whole system was simple to achieve.

London is famous for its unpredictable weather, so a restaurant needs to be able to adjust the temperature easily and quickly. FWP installed hard-wired controllers with the Panasonic ECOi system to give staff at Burger and Lobster total control over temperature, and the controller itself is easy to use, even for those with no experience of heating and cooling systems.

Panasonic’s ECOi VRF system installed in the new Burger and Lobster restaurant on Threadneedle Street, London, suited the high-end ambience perfectly. The concealed ducted units provide a subtle, effective heating and cooling solution and the easy-to-install, compact VRF units ensured that the project was completed quickly and simply.
